Performing in Circus
From a very young age, Jorge started performing in a circus in his hometown. He also got the nickname El Maromero because of the somersault act that he used to perform in the circus.

Boxing Career
Jorge started boxing in San Luis Río Colorado. His professional career began in November 1984 when he knocked out Efren Treno in three rounds.

He won the match against him by a unanimous decision. After winning, he defended this title eight times.
In 1989, he won the WBO featherweight title in a unification against Louie Espinoza. After some time, he vacated his titles and moved up in weight. However, he lost to IBF super featherweight champion Tony Lopez.
In 1991, he moved up to lightweight and fought for the WBC, WBA, and IBF lightweight titles. However, he lost in all the matches.
In 1992 and 1993, Jorge fought for the NABF lightweight title, but he lost both times. Moreover, in the next year, he fought for the WBO lightweight title. However, he lost it by a knockout.
In 1996, he won the WBC Continental Americas super featherweight regional title, but he lost the title in the next year by knockout.
After 1997, Jorge fought against several lower-level opponents. In March 2003, during the match, Jorge suffered from brain swelling.
